Mehdi: Le matin, non. Je vais à la salle de sport, puis je déjeune avec ma sœur.

Clara: D’accord. Moi, le matin je travaille.

Mehdi: Et l’après-midi ?

Clara: Je suis disponible à partir de 14 heures.

Mehdi: On peut se voir à 14 heures ?

Clara: 14 heures, c’est un peu tôt. 15 heures, c’est possible ?

Mehdi: Oui, ça me convient.

Clara: Parfait. C’est confirmé pour samedi à 15 heures.

Mehdi: Super, à samedi !

  2. From what time is Clara available?

  3. What is the final meeting time?

Answers:

  1. He goes to the gym and has lunch with his sister.

  2. From 2 p.m.

  3. Saturday at 3 p.m.

How It Works

To organise time with another person, use four simple moves.

Ask about availability

Tu es disponible quand ?

Tu es disponible samedi ?

Explain your schedule

Je travaille le matin.

Je travaille jusqu’à midi.

Je suis disponible l’après-midi.

Je ne suis pas disponible à 14 heures.

Negotiate

Suggest:

On peut se voir à 14 heures ?

If it does not work:

Je ne suis pas disponible.

C’est un peu tôt.

Plus tard ?

15 heures, c’est possible ?

Confirm

Ça me convient.

C’est confirmé pour samedi à 15 heures.

The goal is not to accept the first suggestion.

The goal is to find a time that works for both people.

Useful Recognition

In casual French, you will also hear:

Tu es libre samedi ?

This is natural and means:

Are you free on Saturday?

But in this unit, use disponible as your main productive word because it works in both social and professional contexts.

Micro Grammar

There is no major new grammar in this Flow Lab.

You are combining the patterns from Lessons 16–19.

Pattern 1 — être disponible

Use:

être disponible + time

Examples:

Je suis disponible lundi.

Je suis disponible après 14 heures.

Je ne suis pas disponible le matin.

Ask:

Tu es disponible quand ?

or formally:

Vous êtes disponible quand ?

Pattern 2 — On peut + infinitive

Use:

On peut + verb ?

to suggest a plan.

Examples:

On peut se voir à 15 heures ?

On peut déjeuner ensemble ?

On peut changer l’heure ?

On peut se retrouver samedi ?

Pronunciation Focus

Notice the connection:

vous‿êtes disponible

/ vu zɛt dis.po.nibl /

And practise these as whole chunks:

Je suis disponible.

Je ne suis pas disponible.

Ça me convient.

C’est confirmé.

Phrase Builder

Découvrir la France

“Ça vous convient ?”

In appointments and professional situations in France, you may often hear:

Ça vous convient ?

It is a very useful way to check whether a proposed date or time works.

Simple French

— Mardi à 15 heures, ça vous convient ?

— Oui, très bien.

In a more informal conversation:

Ça te convient ?

The structure is useful in many situations:

  • medical appointments;

  • work meetings;

  • courses;

  • social plans.

Final Challenge

You and a friend want to spend part of Saturday together.

Your schedules are different.

Your mission is to find one time when you are both available.

Your conversation must include:

  1. one question about availability;

  2. one work, routine, or regular-activity constraint;

  3. one proposed time;

  4. one unavailable time;

  5. one alternative;

  6. one final confirmation.

Scenario

You:

  • work Saturday morning;

  • finish at 13:00;

  • are available after 14:00.

Your friend:

  • goes to the gym at 14:00;

  • is not available from 14:00 to 15:30;

  • is available after 15:30.

Possible Conversation

— Tu es disponible samedi ?

— Oui, mais pas à 14 heures. Je vais à la salle de sport.

— Moi, je travaille le matin. Je finis à 13 heures.

— On peut se voir à 14 heures ?

— Désolé, je ne suis pas disponible à 14 heures.

— 15 heures 30, c’est possible ?

— Oui, ça me convient.

— Parfait. C’est confirmé pour samedi à 15 heures 30.

Communication Win

Do not memorise the script.

Your job is to:

compare availability → propose → refuse → suggest another time → agree → confirm

If you can find one time that works for both people, the mission is successful.
